In Search of Henry Safford Fiske

“In my family apartment where I grew up in New York City, hung a handsome oil painting of Grand Isle in Lake Champlain….painted by my great grandfather Henry Safford Fisk…artist and minister of the Universalist Church in Rutland”.

With this opening paragraph of “In Search of Henry Safford Fiske”, his great grandson Stephen Longfellow Fiske, an artist in his own right, begins the story of his ancestor’s life and work. Through his research he is able to locate numerous pieces of art that include drawings and oil paintings reminiscent of the Hudson River School style.

A picture of St. Paul’s Universalist Church where Henry Fiske was pastor, as well as numerous examples of his drawings and paintings are included. A well written, interesting account of a multi-talented man.
